Selection of breeding and wintering habitats and estimation of habitat quality levels for a favourable conservation status of shorebirds in agricultural landscapes in the European community.
The first aim of the thesis will be to describe the use of breeding and wintering habitats for these vulnerable species. It will then study the links between demographic trends and the use of these habitats throughout the European range, as well as the predicted impacts of ongoing climate change on demography. We will investigate how remote monitoring data can provide new information on reproductive status and performance, as well as cryptic mortality, to enable remote monitoring of demographic parameters. Home ranges will be modelled on the basis of concentrations of points recorded during wintering and breeding, and will make it possible to account for habitat use and its importance in breeding success or winter survival.
