Research axis

Axis 1: Adaptive capacity to coastal risks.

The attractiveness of coastal areas exposes them strongly to the impacts of climate change, and more particularly to coastal and ecological risks. However, these territories also possess adaptation capacities supported by significant resources.
The objective is to better understand adaptation/maladaptation trajectories in response to climate change and the greater or lesser resilience of territories and societies, and to propose renewed solutions to support the stakeholders of these transitions (serious games, observatories, etc.).

Axis 2: Changing practices and governance of coastal-maritime territories facing socio-environmental challenges

Observing and understanding the continuities and/or ruptures in the evolution of practices and representations of coastal and maritime spaces (tourism and leisure practices, residential choices, fishing, etc.), and, on the other hand, studying the territorial governance of environmental issues (biodiversity, climate change). Questioning these evolutions makes it possible to analyse the effects of socio-environmental changes (climate change, ecological transition, digital turn, health crisis) on practices and representations, the games of scales and the paradoxical effects of environmental policies, and thus to shed light on the capacity of stakeholders to adapt, and therefore on the conditions for greater sustainability.

Axis 3: Environmental justice

It is now widely accepted that the justice of environmental practices and policies conditions their sustainability. The issue of environmental justice concerns all sectors and levels of the transformation towards sustainability, and therefore all the objects studied by the team. Environmental justice is addressed in its substantive dimension (environmental inequalities, social justice of ecological transition policies, ecological solidarity in the protection and exploitation of global marine resources, etc.) and in its procedural dimension (equal participation of stakeholders in decisions impacting the environment).
