Scientific objectives

The ESTRAN team is interested in the relations between societies and their space over the long term, paying particular attention to the modes of appropriation and use of coastal areas:

study of the traces left in soils by human activities (magnetic, electrical and electromagnetic properties, archaeological remains...) and analysis of sources (written, iconographic, sound).

study of the relations that societies maintain with their coastline, based on the analysis of economic uses, nautical activities, governances, political issues and the representations they have of them.
