Exemple de l’intérêt du couplage GNSS et marégraphes :
Un exemple d'application de résultats GNSS (GPS) aux marégraphes est donné ci-contre (à droite) illustrant la présence des mouvements verticaux du sol dans les séries temporelles longues des marégraphes et comment les analyses fines des mesures GPS peuvent les séparer des contributions climatiques. (Cliquez sur l'image pour l'agrandir). Dans ces panneaux sont représentés les observations des marégraphes disposant d'enregistrements longs et de grande qualité. Il s'agit de moyennes annuelles issues du service international du niveau moyen de la mer (PSMSL). Les panneaux de droite montrent les séries marégraphiques corrigées des vitesses GPS de notre solution ULR5 de stations placées à proximité ou (mieux) sur les marégraphes. La dispersion observée dans les panneaux de gauche est alors remarquablement réduite dans les trois régions (écart-type de 0.3 mm/an). Ces résultats sont une mise à jour de ceux publiés dans Wöppelmann et al. (2009).
Le contexte d'observation du niveau marin à la côte est représenté dans le schéma ci-contre (à gauche). Dans ce schéma apparaissent les principaux éléments constitutifs d'un observatoire du niveau marin côtier, à savoir le marégraphe et une station GPS permanente pour en surveiller la stabilité géocentrique. L'altimétrie radar embarquée sur satellite joue un rôle de plus en plus important, mais ces données ont besoin d'un complément de mesure afin de convertir leur nature géocentrique en relative à la côte pour les études d'impacts (submersion marine et érosion côtière). Le GPS peut apporter ce complément d'information, soit S = N - U, en reprenant les quantités représentées dans le cas idéalisé de la figure. En effet, la situation est plus complexe, en particulier en raison de l'hypothèse faite ici que le marégraphe et l'altimètre radar du satellite observent la même surface de la mer.
Responsabilités scientifiques et administratives en cours
Ces recherches se font dans un contexte de collaborations internationales fortes :
- depuis 2001 : membre du groupe d’experts du programme mondial d’observation du niveau de la mer (GLOSS) sous l’égide de la Commission Océanographique Intergouvernementale de l’UNESCO, en particulier contact national entre 2004 et 2015 et membre du comité de pilotage depuis 2022.
- depuis 2011 : responsable du centre de données GNSS aux marégraphes du Système d’observation du niveau des eaux littorales (SONEL).
- depuis 2024 : membre du groupe de travail 4.5 (Climate Change induced Sea Level Rise and Adaptation) de la Fédération Internationale des Géomètres (FIG).
- depuis 2025 : membre du Consortium Board du Thematic Core Service GNSS de l’infrastructure européenne EPOS.
- depuis 2025 : Co-chair du projet pilote TIGA (Tide Gauge) du Service international GNSS (IGS) et, par suite, membre du Governing Board de l’IGS.
